Baba Ijesha to spend 5years in jail.

The trial of Nollywood actor, Baba Ijesha, which lasted over 12 months since his arrest in June 2021, was concluded yesterday, with a conviction and 16 years sentence.

An Ikeja Special Offences Court on Thursday convicted the comic actor, whose real name is Olanrewaju James, of indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, and attempted sexual assault. The now-convicted actor has been on trial since his arrest and arraignment last year, after he was alleged to have sexually assaulted a 14-year-old foster daughter of comedian, Princess. He, however, wouldn’t serve up to 16 years in jail.

Why, and how many years will he serve?

The presiding judge, Oluwatoyin Taiwo, ruled the accused guilty of four of the six charges against him. Of the charges he was found guilty of, two attract five years sentence each, while the remaining two attract three years. The 16-year jail term will, however, run concurrently, meaning that the convicted actor will spend five years behind bars. He was acquitted of counts one and six, which were: sexual assault by penetration, and attempted sexual assault by penetration.
