UK police arrest Ike Ekweremadu and wife on allegations of organ harvesting.

A Nigerian man, Ike Ekweremadu, and his wife have been arrested by the London Metropolitan Police on allegation of conspiring to bring a child to the UK for the purpose of harvesting organs, the police announced on Thursday.

Senator Ike Ekweremadu?

It has not been established if the former Deputy-president of the Nigerian Senate is the accused, though his names and his wife Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, as well as their ages, are the same as those of the arrested persons. “The investigation was launched after detectives were alerted to potential offenses under modern slavery legislation in May 2022,” the police said.

So the police didn’t confirm if it’s the senator or not?

No, there was no such confirmation. According to the police, the arrested couple has been remanded in custody and will appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court. When the police were contacted for more details about the couple, the Metropolitan Police declined, saying that, “As criminal proceedings are now underway we will not be providing further details”.

The announcement said the Police’s Specialist Crime Team conducted an investigation and stated that: “[A] Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55 (10.9.66) of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate the travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.  [B] Ike Ekweremadu, 60 (12.05.62) of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate the travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting”.
